About Yard

Comprenew is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring environmental care and increasing vocational preparedness through education for all people and segments of society, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or status, through best practice technology recycling services.

It is Comprenew’s mission to protect people and the environment from problems associated with electronics by extending the economic lifecycle of used electronics. We act as a resource for the community to recycle and educate, while providing job readiness programs.

Comprenew adheres to a strict zero-landfill policy for all electronic waste and does not export hazardous materials to other countries.

Comprenew is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect people and the environment from unwanted electronics by either extending their life-cycle or recycling the3Recycling it mattersir components. Comprenew holds the highest level of certifications for electronics recycling and data security in the country.Currently, Comprenew has over 27 recycle drop-off locations throughout Michigan, including four refurbished electronic retail stores. The revenue generated from Comprenew goes directly back into the community by funding Comprenew’s educational and workforce development programs.

Comprenew makes recycling convenient accepting nearly all electronics with a battery or cord. Comprenew gives you peace of mind by handling all data-rich electronics securely, with the leading data sanitization processes in the industry. Comprenew’s electronic lifecycle management model minimizes environmental impact by promoting reuse before recycling. We are e-Stewards and R2 Certified, with a zero landfill and export policy for all electronics and focus materials. Every electronic device is sanitized as standard protocol, free of charge. Certificates of Recycling are available upon request.

Why Recycle?

Electronic waste is a growing concern that is exacerbated by our fast-paced consumer cycle and product innovation. Cadmium, Mercury, Lead, Americium, Arsenic, Beryllium Oxide, and Flame Retardants are just a few hazardous materials commonly found in e-waste. It is vital that these harmful elements stay out of landfills where they contaminate ground water and release toxic chemicals into the atmosphere.

We offer technology for every need. From affordable home and mobile computer systems and parts, to rare and vintage electronics.Every time you purchase electronic devices, accessories, or computer parts from Comprenew, your proceeds help fund Comprenew’s community outreach programs for both adults and kids at risk.Comprenew holds the highest level of certifications in the United States for both electronics recycling and data security. Comprenew minimizes environmental impact by promoting reuse before recycling, so we offer high quality refurbished and vintage electronics along with new. Our retail stores a wide variety of manufacturers such as Sony, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, and Apple. Each location also offers computer and mobile device repair and electronics drop-off for recycling. We accept anything with a battery or cord and we guarantees that all memory devices are cleared for free by highly trained professionals.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

It is Comprenew’s mission to protect people and the environment from problems associated with electronics by not only by keeping electronic waste out of the landfills, but also extending the economic lifecycle of used electronics. In addition, we act as a resource for the community to educate about the hazards of e-waste while providing job readiness and training programs.

  • Comprenew Academy: This program is an environmentally focused year-long paid internship program for displaced young adults that provides mentorship, direction, and preparation for the workforce.

  • Comprenew Workforce Development Program: Equips adults with the necessary skills to be successful in the 21st century work environment.

  • Comprenew Service Learning Program: Hosts school, church, and community groups to educate and inspire to a heightened sense of care for the environment.

  • Comprenew Connect for Parents: Helps financially challenged families acquire a home computer and training. Comprenew’s goal is to close the digital divide while setting up families for success. For more information, Click here.

  • Comprenew Connect for Seniors: A new partnership with The Law Offices of David L. Carrier, which is underwriting a portion of the costs, this program offers seniors with little or no computer experience training in basic computer technology and a free computer for home use.

     There is a recycling fee for:

  • CRTs (Cathode Ray Tube) televisions and monitors This fee is based on weight and size. 
  • Copiers (requested donation of $50.00 per unit)
  • Small items with refrigerants (flat fee of $15)
  • House hold batteries ($1/per pound)
