• When the managers of larger offices and office buildings expressed an interest, we purchased hundreds of wheeled plastic collection and storage containers.
• When local waste haulers needed a more economical place to recycle the corrugated they collected, we doubled the size of our tipping area.

Our high-speed balers makes short work out of loose paper and old corrugated containers or other unwanted material for easier recycling. Baled paper is shipped to paper mills for processing. We also take accept filled gaylord containers of office waste, and printer waste.

Waste Paper Recycling

We take every type of paper at Alan Josephsen Co., Inc. We use our machines to recycle paper. The process of recycling paper has about 10 steps to achieve it. The first step is pulping, which is adding water and applying the machines to separate the paper fibers from one another. The next step is screening, which is where the liquefied paper is put through a screen to separate the pulp fibers that are too big. Then the pulp is spun at a high rate to move the more dense pulp fibers out of the mixture. This process is called Centrifugal Cleaning.

Flotation, or deinking is the passing of air bubbles out of the mixture, and since the pulp is very foamy, the ink particles raise to the top of the surface with the foam. Then the machines start to knead the mixture, and then the pulp is washed with water to remove the small particles. If the paper is desired to be white, then bleaching is involved to remove the color from the liquefied paper. The paper is then made into new paper, and everything that came out of the the paper is recycled. The water is recycled for reuse and the sludge is used to power the paper mill or used by local farmers.

Balers

Balers are machines that compact and bind recyclable materials. A baler uses a hydraulic ram to compact material into a box shape. Compressed bales are then secured with wires. A baler can process paper, cardboard, corrugated boxes, tin or aluminum cans, plastics, or large metal components into dense stackable bales. The bales reduce space required for storage and transportation, and can be moved with a forklift. There is a wide range of sizes for balers. Recycling facilities from small military bases to high volume municipal waste recovery facilities use them to prepare recyclable materials for market. Most recyclables must be baled or a buyer will not accept them.

Balers may be fed by a gravity feeder, a mechanical conveyor, or an air feed system. If the operation calls for the use of the same baler to bale more than one material type, the baler must be specifically designed to handle different materials at different ranges of capacity. Tying bales with wire can be manual or automatic. The number, size, and tension of the baling wires must be adequate for the particular material baled. Throughput capacity for our typical balers is 20 tons per hour. A baler produces no new waste streams.
