SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The world crude steel production by 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) totalled 167.9 million tonnes (Mt) in June this year, higher by 11.6% compared to the same month a year before.
The largest steel producing region was the Asia and Oceania, whose output totalled 122.5 Mt in June this year. The second largest producer was the EU-27 region, with an output of 13.2 Mt. In third place was North America, which recorded an output of 10.0 Mt. The output (in Mt) by the other regions is as follows: Africa (1.5), CIS (8.9), Other Europe (4.3), Middle East (3.6) and South America (3.9).

All regions recorded year-on-year surge in crude steel output. The South American region’s production skyrocketed by almost 51.3%. The production by the African region was up by 46.9%. The North American and the EU-27 regions recorded surge in output by 45.2% and 34.7% respectively. Other Europe too saw significant jump in output by 21.0%. The CIS region saw its output increase by 8.9% over the previous year. The Asia and Oceania region output was up by 6.4% year-on-year. Middle East production recorded 9.1% surge.
The topmost steel producing country was China, with an output of 93.9 Mt in June 2021. The other key producers were India (9.4 Mt) and Japan (8.1 Mt).
