Wickliffe Paper Mill Aims to Start Production in Early-2019

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC started accepting job applications for hourly positions in the maintenance and production departments.

According to company website, the company seeks candidates having at least 10 years of relevant experience in the paper industry and minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience overall. Interested individuals are requested to visit the Kentucky Career Center located at 416 South 6th Street in Paducah, KY. The recruited employees will commence work between mid-January and April next year. Also, the company expects to commence production at the Kentucky paper mill early next year.

In August 2018, Global Win Wickliffe LLC, a subsidiary of Shanying International- one of the leading Chinese containerboard producers had signed a deal with Verso Corporation to acquire its mill in Wickliffe, Ky for a sum of $16 million. The buyer had also announced its intention to invest close to $150 million to upgrade the mill, leading to creation of approximately 500 new jobs. Also, it stated that the facility will be rededicated to produce pulp and kraft packaging paper. The plant, idled since fall of 2015, had been producing coated paper when in operation under Verso.

The mill, recently renamed to Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC., is Shanying International’s first pulp and paper production facility in the U.S.
