Recycling Partnership Announces Addition of Sappi North America as Direct Funding Partner

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Boston-headquartered Sappi North America has reinforced its association with the non-profit The Recycling Partnership, by elevating itself as a direct funding partner. The company has been a partner of Recycling Works in Publishing (RWIP) initiative under the non-profit, which works towards boosting curbside recycling among the US communities. By becoming funding partner, Sappi North America will now join hands in efforts to transform recycling through increased material recovery and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Keefe Harrison, CEO of The Recycling Partnership stated that the non-profit is grateful to have Sappi North America as a direct partner. He highlighted the launch of the recycling cart programme by the company in the city of Portland, Maine last fall which resulted in dramatic improvement in recycling access for the city’s residents. The Partnership looks forward to associate itself with similar innovative ideas and campaigns, Harrison said. Since 2015, the non-profit has invested approximately $27 million in recycling infrastructure projects in cities and town across the US, he added.

Laura Thompson, Director of Sustainable Development and Global Policy Initiatives, Sappi North America noted that the company is extremely proud of the works carried out in association with the Partnership over the years. The company’s new role as funding partner would help to deliver larger impact on recycling in US communities. The company will continue to remain committed to top sustainability practices and best use of materials, Thompson added.

The latest statistics indicate that the US recovers only over two-thirds of paper in circulation. The remaining one-third equates to nearly 20 million tons of paper-based materials that are still not recovered.
