Peak Industries Cut Ribbon on New Finger Joint Mill in Cranbrook

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Peak Industries celebrated ribbon cutting ceremony of its new finger joint mill in Cranbrook. The ceremony held on 3rd March, 2021 was attended by Lee Pratt, Cranbrook Mayor and City Councillors, in addition to top level executives of the company among others.

The lot of land, formerly owned by Tembec, was purchased by Peak Industries from the City of Cranbook for a sum of $6 million in November last year. The company currently operates the existing finger joint mill at the site, producing nearly 50,000 board feet every week. It plans to carry out extensive development plans at the site, aimed at boosting the production to approximately 200,000 board feet every week. Also, Peak Industries plans to ship the products into the U.S.

Bill Bennet, consultant to Peak Industries told that the ribbon cutting ceremony marks the return of the forest industry to the City of Cranbrook. The robust demand for products from Texas is likely to add a second shift at the mill, thereby creating 15 additional jobs. It must be noted that the finger joint mill currently employs 15 people.

The waste wood, mainly from Canfor’s Elko sawmill, is planed and brought to the Cranbrook mill, where the wood is jointed together and cut into required dimensions and lengths.
