Northern Pulp Mill Awaits Province’s Response on Newly Submitted Focus Report

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Paper Excellence- the parent company that owns Pictou County Northern Pulp Mill announced that it is still awaiting a response from the Nova Scotia Minister of Environment on the recently submitted focus report, as required by the province.

Brian Baarda, CEO, Paper Excellence noted that the company is optimistic of a favourable reply from the provincial administration. The company has spent enormous amount of time, resources and expertise to prepare the report. The report provides all necessary details regarding the world-class treatment facility, which the company believes to have no meaningful impact on environment, he added.

Meantime, Baarda criticized the unofficial responses made by some federal government officials. Such irresponsible and untimely responses would only help to create unnecessary anxiety among thousands of Nova Scotian families who depend on forestry and its associated sectors for their livelihood.

The new Focus Report is said to contain scientific details with regards to the mill’s proposed effluent treatment plant. It must be noted that the province had given Jan 31, 2020 deadline to the company to come up with a new effluent pipeline.
