SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Hudbay Minerals Inc. announced commencement of gold production at its New Britannia mill in Snow Lake, Manitoba. The first gold production comes ahead of the original schedule to produce first gold before end-2021.
Earlier in June this year, the company had completed refurbishment activities at the gold mill. After commissioning and startup activities in July, the mill achieved first gold production on August 11th, 2021.

The company press release also announced progress on construction of new copper flotation facility at New Britannia. It remains well on track to achieve commissioning and ramp up in the last quarter of the current year. The initial six full years of operations at New Britannia is expected to boost annual gold production from Lalor and the Snow Lake operations to exceed 180,000 ounces at an average sustaining cash cost of $788 per counce of gold, it noted.
Commenting on the important milestone, Peter Kukielski, President and Chief Executive Officer, Hudbay Minerals said that it is proud of the operating teams at the New Britannia project for completing construction activities ahead of timeline and achieving a successful ramp up to first gold pour. It marks the beginning of the transition of its Lalor mine to a primary gold operation, he added.
