The key demand was for immediate passage of the federal prompt payment legislation. This legislation would benefit small to medium sector construction companies who make up almost 70% of the entire construction industry. Further, the legislation is expected to benefit approximately 1.4 million people associated with construction industry in the country, highlighted the CISC.

According to CISC, the imposition of 25% steel tariffs by the U.S. administration and the countermeasures imposed by Canada and several other world countries have negatively impacted the Canadian steel construction industry growth. CISC called for immediate resolution of the steel tariffs issue.

CISC has also asked for urgent action on LNG Canada’s remission request with regards to duty waiver on fabricated industrial steel components (FISC). It urged the federal government to hold LNG Canada accountable for the duties. The relocation of the project to China would cost hundreds of Canadian constructions jobs.
