Cascades Sonoco Officially Inaugurates Expanded Birmingham Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Cascades Sonoco-a joint venture between Cascades, Inc. and Sonoco Products Company has announced official inauguration of the expanded Birmingham plant in Alabama. The inauguration of the new state-of-the-art equipment is scheduled to be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the plant premises.

The inauguration event featurs a joint press conference by Mario Plourde, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cascades, Inc. and Robert C. Tiede, Chief Executive Officer, Sonoco. Several dignitaries, media partners, customer, suppliers and employees will be in attendance, the company press release said.

Cascades Sonoco had announced $16 million investment at the plant in February 2017. The investment in water-based coating technology was aimed to expand its product portfolio using the company’s FlexShield, FluteSHIELD and SurfSHIELD coatings. The expansion project was supported by various agencies including Alabama Department of Commerce, Jefferson County Commission, Alabama Power Co. and the Birmingham Business Alliance.
