AF&PA : U.S. Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Surged

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its May 2022 Printing-Writing monthly report.

The total printing-writing paper shipments in May this year recorded marginal increase by 2%, compared to May 2021. The U.S. purchases of printing-writing paper registered a jump by 3% during the month year-on-year. The inventory levels witnessed 1% surge over the prior month.

The purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) increased 2%, compared to May 2021. The UFS imports and exports both witnessed significant decline, falling by 3% and 29% respectively, when compared with the prior month.

The U.S. shipments of coated free sheet (CFS) papers increased by 2% year-on-year, whereas the inventory level increased 2% month-on-month. CFS imports and exports were down significantly by 5% and 6% respectively, compared with April 2021. Meantime, the coated mechanical (CM) paper shipments dropped 11% from May last year, while the inventory level dipped by 5% from the prior month.

According to AF&PA report, the U.S. shipments of uncoated mechanical (UM) papers increased by 4%, compared with last May. The inventory level was up by 2%. The imports were up by 5%, while the exports dipped by 15% in April 2022.
