Cardboard Paper is the Most Preferred Packaging Material

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The European Packaging Preferences 2020 study carried out by the independent research company Toluna has found that cardboard was the preferred packaging material of consumers in the European region. It outclassed other packaging materials on account various factors including superior recyclability, lighter weight and lower cost.

Out of the total of 15 attributes surveyed, paper/cardboard came out as the clear winner in 10. Glass was the winner in four, whereas metal was the winner in the remaining attribute. Nearly 63% of the consumers chose paper/cardboard to be the best material for the environment. Also, 57% people voted it as the easiest material to recycle.

Plastic packaging materials received least acceptance among consumers. It managed to compete with paper/cardboard only in practicality criterion. Nearly 70% of the participants said they are committed to reduce the use of plastic packaging. Also 46% said that they prefer to buy from those retailers who deal with plastic-free packaging.

55% of the respondents chose glass packaging as the preferred choice in terms of protection of materials reusability, look and feel. Metal packaging was selected as the strongest packaging option.
