World’s Top Steel Producers During First Half of 2016

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to latest statistics published by the World Steel Association, the world crude steel output by 66 countries reporting to the Association totaled 135.720 Million tonnes during June this year. The monthly output remained more or less flat when compared with the output recorded during the same month last year. These 66 countries had accounted for approximately 99% of the total world crude steel production in 2015.

The following table lists world’s top ten nations with regards to total crude steel output during June ‘16.

DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in June this year has dropped marginally by nearly 2.5% when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of June 2016 totaled 4.620 million metric tons, down marginally by 2.55% when compared with the 4.741 million metric tons production achieved during May this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran and India ranked first in DRI production during the month. Mexico was the third largest DRI producing nation in June this year.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during June this year was 1.385 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in June declined modestly by 3.35% when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.433 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in June 2016 totaled 1.385 million metric tons, which is lower by more than 3% when compared with the previous month output of 1.430 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in May this year amounted to 495,000 metric tons, which is lower by nearly 3% when compared with the output of 510,000 metric tons during May 2016.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in June 2016 is as follows: Canada (138), Saudi Arabia (405), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (51), Peru (5), Venezuela (20), Egypt (235), Libya (40), South Africa (70), Qatar (195) and United Arab Emirates (196).

The World Steel production figures are based on the figures collected from 14 countries, which accounted for approximately 90% of the global DRI production in 2014.
