DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in April this year has increased marginally by nearly 1% when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of April 2016 totaled 4.329 million metric tons, up marginally by 0.98% when compared with the 4.287 million metric tons production achieved during March this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran ranked first in DRI production during the month. The country had overtaken India during March this year to become the world’s leading DRI producer. India and Saudi Arabia were the second and third largest DRI producing nations.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during April this year was 1.425 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in April increased sharply by over 15% when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.235 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in April 2016 totaled 1.180 million metric tons, which is marginally down flat when compared with the previous month output of 1.221 million metric tons. The Saudi Arabian DRI output in April this year amounted to 405,000 metric tons, which is marginally less when compared with the output of 420,000 metric tons during March 2016.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in April 2016 is as follows: Canada (129), Mexico (335), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (44), Peru (3), Venezuela (20), Egypt (210), Libya (104), South Africa (75), Qatar (195) and United Arab Emirates (203).
