Two Rivers Lumber Co. Announces Official Start-Up of West Alabama Saw Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Two Rivers Lumber Company has announced start-up of its Demopolis, Alabama area lumber saw mill on schedule. According to company press release, the construction of the mill had completed in August itself. The mill has been in operation since the beginning of this month. After trial runs, the mill is now completely up and running, the press release noted. The mill had broken ground earlier in January this year. During the ground breaking ceremony, it had declared to begin production from the facility by third quarter of 2017.

The saw mill features state-of-the-art equipment, aimed at modernizing work process. The company is believed to have made an investment of nearly $65 million into the project. The BID Group was entrusted with the design and building of the facility. By end of Q2 ’17, it had announced 95% completion of machinery installation works at the plant. Further, it had assured completion of remaining installation and construction works by end-August and start-up of the plant by end-September this year.

The mill is equipped with latest technologies including a Comact optimized log bucking system, a Comact saw line and a fully-automated mill outfeed. The mill makes use of dual path continuous kiln technology in lumber drying. Once dried, the lumber is passed on to the planer mill for finishing. According to Two Rivers Lumber Company, the planer mill is now equipped with Miller high speed planer and the latest Comact GradExpertTM 2.0 automated lumber grading system, specifically designed and supplied by the BID Group.

Meantime, Alistair Cook, BID Group President & CEO stated that the contract with Two Rivers Lumber Company has helped to establish a strong relationship with Demopolis community. It is proud to have worked with the company for the supply, install and start-up of the Demopolis mill, Cook added.

The upgraded saw mill is considered to be one among the top five employers in West Alabama and is expected to deliver significant contributions to the economic growth of Marengo County. The creation of new jobs is expected to boost prosperity of the regional community. In addition to the several full-time jobs, the mill is expected to create large number of indirect jobs in forestry industry subsectors.

The mill, located at 970, Industrial Park, Demopolis, south to the meeting point of the Black Warrior and Tombigbee rivers, produces different sizes of dimensional lumber that are marketed to all key markets across the US.
