Royal Canadian Mint Introduces New 2014 $50 Snowy Owl Silver Coin

OTTAWA (Scrap Monster): Royal Canadian Mint introduced 2014 $ 50 Snowy Owl Silver Coin with face value of $50.  It is the second coin in its new program of 99.99 pct silver coins.

The program has started in April by introducing the 2014 $50 Polar Bear Silver Coin as first coin. Mint said that about 74 pct of available 100,000 have already sold off. The mintage cap for the new coin is 10,000 lower at 90,000.

Royal Canadian Mint has released nearly two dozen silver coins of different face value, which includes 13 silver coins with face value $20, 4 silver coins with face value $100 and one coin with face value $200.

The coins become very popular with their silver content, prices, and bold designs. The new $50 silver coin has a depiction of Snowy Owl in flight with a Canadian arctic environment in the background. It also has inscriptions ‘CANADA’, ‘50 DOLLARS’ and the year 2014. On the obverse side there is Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the writings ELIZABETH II and D.G. REGINA.

The weight of the silver coin is 15.87 grams. It has diameter of 34 mm and is matte proof finish and a serrated edge. It has 99.99% pure silver content. The snowy silver owl coin has a silver weight of about 0.51023 oz.
