Peru approves environmental permit for Southern Copper

The government declared that, Peru has accepted the environmental report submitted by the Southern Copper on behalf of its 1.2 billion dollars worth expansion in its Toquepala mine, the project, which is anticipated to raise the copper output of the country to 100,000 tonnes per year.

LIMA (Scrap Monster): The construction of the mine will add a new concentrator on it, and will also boost the tailings storage capacity of the mine. The company expects to complete the construction in 2 years. The Energy and Mines Ministry, stated in a report that, the ministry has looked up on the report submitted by the company and also has decided to grant permission to the expansion and the construction procedures of the mine.

The government had also granted the Southern Copper, an environmental permit for the company’s Tia Maria copper mine, in the month of August. The company is controlled by Grupo Mexico. The largest mining  corporation in Mexico, and also the third largest copper producing company in the whole world. The Grupo Mexico had declared that, this years copper production of the mine will end at 658,000 tonnes. The company is trying out plans to increase the out put of the mine to 75,000 tonnes the next year
