North American crude steel production rises 2% in July '14

North American crude steel production rises 2% in July '14

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries went higher by 2.0% during the month of July year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Canada during July this year was 1.115 Mt, higher than the July 2013 production of 1.055 Mt by 5.7%. The US produced 7.609 Million tonnes of crude steel, higher by 2.3% when compared to 7.439 Million tonnes production achieved during July 2013. The total crude steel production by Mexico witnessed a marginal decline of 0.2% from 1.603 Mt in July 2013 to 1.600 Mt in July this year.

The Cuban crude steel production was up 10.4% from 27,000 tonnes to 30,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in July this year, almost flat year-on-year. Guatemala produced 30,000 tonnes in July down 6% when compared to 32,000 tonnes produced in July last year. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago plunged 34.4% in July this year to 37,000 tonnes from 57,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first seven months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
