Middle East crude steel output up 2.0% in August '14

Middle East crude steel output up 2.0% in August '14

ABU DHABI (Scrap Monster): According to most recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by the Middle East region increased by 2.0% during the month of August year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Iran during August was 1.332 Million tonnes, increasing by 3.1% in comparison with the August 2013 production of 1.292 Million tonnes. Qatar produced 270,000 tonnes of crude steel, higher by 37.8% when compared to 196,000 tonnes production achieved during August 2013. Meantime, Saudi Arabia’s crude steel output surged over the year to 543,000 tonnes during August this year. The total crude steel production by the UAE during August was 104,000 tonnes, sharply down by 58.9% in comparison with the August 2013 production of 254,000 tonnes.

Iran’s total crude steel output had totaled 1.450 Million tonnes in July ’14. When compared to this, July ’14 output is down considerably. Qatar’s production remained unchanged from the previous month. Saudi Arabian output increased month-on-month during August ‘14. UAE’s August ’14 output dropped significantly when compared with 165,000 tonnes during July.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first eight months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
