EU-28 Crude Steel Production Rose 3.4% in October

The largest producer of crude steel in the EU-28 region was Germany. The German output recorded 3.3% growth from 3.506 Mt in October last year to 3.600 Mt in the same month in 2017.

EU-28 Crude Steel Production Rose 3.4% in October

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The crude steel output by the EU-28 countries recorded modest jump during the month of October this year. The regional monthly output jumped higher by 3.4% over the previous year. This is in accordance with the monthly data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). The combined output during the initial ten months of the year too was up marginally by 3.7%.

The monthly crudes steel output during October 2017 by the EU-28 region totaled 14.747 million tonnes (Mt), higher by 3.4% when matched with the production of 14.262 Mt recorded during the same month a year before.

The largest producer of crude steel in the EU-28 region was Germany. The German output recorded 3.3% growth from 3.506 Mt in October last year to 3.600 Mt in the same month in 2017. Italy, the second biggest producer increased its output by 6.1% from 2.145 Mt to 2.275 Mt over the year. France’s output increased marginally by 1.6% over the previous year to total 1.138 Mt. The country’s output had totaled 1.337 Mt in October last year. The other key producing nations were Spain (1.305 Mt) and Poland (895,000 tonnes). The top five producers accounted for nearly 64% of the total regional monthly production.

The cumulative output during the initial ten months of the year totaled 140.765 Mt, higher by 3.7% when compared with the corresponding production figures of 135.704 Mt in Jan-Oct ’17. The top three producers in the region were Germany (36.476 Mt), Italy (20.075 Mt) and France (13.093 Mt). The other key producing countries were Spain (11.820 Mt), Poland (8.645 Mt), Austria (6.801Mt), Belgium (60.452 Mt) and the UK (6.314 Mt).

Meantime, the other European countries including Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey recorded sharp 10.4% surge in output in October. The monthly production by these countries totaled 3.529 Mt as against 3.197 Mt in October 2016. The Turkish output accounted for nearly 94% of the total regional output. Turkey’s crude steel production soared by 11.1% from 2.975 Mt to 3.306 Mt over the previous year.

The cumulative steel output by other European countries increased by 13.2% over the previous year to 33.563 Mt in Jan-Oct ‘17. This is upon comparison with the output during the corresponding ten months of the previous year. Turkey continued to be the largest producer with cumulative output totaling 31.048 Mt. The outputs by other countries were as follows: Serbia (1.177 million tonnes), Bosnia-Herzegovina (611,000 tonnes), Norway (498,000 tonnes) and Macedonia (229,000 tonnes).
