The North American crude steel production dropped sharply by 6.8% during July this year. The production during the month totaled 9.744 Mt.

Crude steel output by North America plunged heavily in July

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries edged lower by 6.8% during the month of July year-on-year. The production totaled 9.744 Mt in July this year as against 10.455 Mt recorded in July ’14.

The total crude steel production by Canada during July this year was 1.065 Mt, considerably lower than the July 2014 production of 1.122 Mt by 5%. The US produced 6.989 Million tonnes of crude steel, significantly lower by 9.1% when compared to 7.691 Million tonnes production achieved during July 2014. The total crude steel production by Mexico increased marginally by 2.4% from 1.542 Mt in July ‘14 to 1.580 Mt in July this year.

The Cuban crude steel production rebounded sharply by 69.2% year-on-year to 35,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in July this year, remaining flat when compared with July last year. Guatemala produced 35,000 tonnes in July, slightly higher than the production of 33,000 tonnes during the same month a year before. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago tumbled by nearly 19.7% in July this year to 30,000 tonnes from 37,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first seven months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
