CIS crude steel output extends decline in September

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) dropped by 6.8% during the month of September year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Byelorussia surged higher by 46.6% during September this year to 220,000 tonnes from 150,000 tonnes in September 2013.  Kazakhstan produced 310,000 tonnes of crude steel, slightly higher by 0.6% when compared to 308,000 tonnes production achieved during September 2013. Moldova recorded 35,000 tonnes steel output during the month. The total crude steel production by Russia was up 6.0% from 5.568 Million tonnes in September 2013 to 5.900 Million tonnes this September.

There was marked decline in Ukraine’s crude steel output in September. Ukraine’s total crude steel output declined sharply by 37.0% to 1.700 Million tonnes in September 2014 when compared to the output of 2.700 Million tonnes during September last year. Also, Uzbekistan’s crude steel output dropped by 2.2% during the month.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first nine months in 2014 in comparison with those during same period in 2013.
