BEIJING (SMM): Copper output in China is expected to reach 6.80 million tonnes in 2014, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.
"Copper production's growth is estimated at around 4% this year to reach 6.80 million tonnes," Zhou Xiao'ou, SMM's copper analyst said at 2014 SMM China Metal Summit on Nov. 23-24.
Production cuts at Chinese smelters and smaller-than-scheduled commissioning of new capacities should be reasons behind small growth, she understands.
Limited supply of crude copper and anode copper are also blamed for that, she added at the summit in Shanghai.
Copper output, however, will increase to 7.55 million tonnes in 2015, she estimates.
