SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): According to latest statistics published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by South American region dropped significantly during the month of October this year. The total monthly output declined sharply by 10.6% to 3.514 Million tonnes (Mt). On the other hand, North American crude steel output increased marginally by 1.6% during the month.
The total crude steel production by Argentina during October was 377,000 tonnes, down considerably by 19.6% than the October 2015 production of 469,000 tonnes. Brazil produced 2.720 Million tonnes of crude steel, down by 8.8% when compared to 2.983 Million tonnes production achieved during October last year. The output by Chile declined by nearly 9.6% to 90,000 tonnes in October this year. The total crude steel production by Colombia dropped by 12.1% to 105,000 tonnes in October this year.
Ecuador’s crude steel output dropped significantly by 29.7% on year-on-year basis. The crude steel output by Ecuador was 50,000 tonnes in October this year, down when compared with 71,000 tonnes during October last year. Paraguay’s crude steel output dropped sharply by nearly 59% during the month.
The crude steel output by Peru increased modestly by 12.8% year-on-year. The crude steel output of Uruguay dropped significantly by over 50% when compared with the year before levels. Venezuelan production dropped considerably by 28.6% year-on-year from 77,000 tonnes to 55,000 tonnes.
The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the initial ten-month period of the current year in comparison with the corresponding ten months from January to October in 2015.

Meantime, the crude steel production by North American countries recovered marginally by 1.6% during the month of October year-on-year. The production totaled 9.122 Mt in October this year as against 8.976 Mt recorded in October ‘15.
The total crude steel production by Canada during October this year was 1.035 Mt, higher by 10.5% when compared with the October 2015 production. The US produced 6.382 Million tonnes of crude steel, slightly lower by 2.5% when compared to 6.546 Million tonnes production achieved during October 2015. The total crude steel production by Mexico surged higher by 21.7% from 1.355 Mt in October ‘15 to 1.650 Mt in October this year.
The Cuban crude steel production decreased sharply by 27.6% year-on-year to 20,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in October this year, down slightly when compared with October last year. Guatemala produced 25,000 tonnes in October, lower by 36.2% when matched with the production during the same month a year before. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago nosedived to zero in October this year from 59,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.
