Aluminium Recycling Body celebrates 25th Anniversary

CANTERBURY (Scrap Monster): The representative body of UK’s leading aluminium packaging producers and reprocessors- The Aluminium Packaging Recycling Organization (ALUPRO) celebrated its 25th year of successful operation.

The celebration events were held at the prestigious Haberdashers’ Hall in London during early-October. Over 100 guests gathered on the occasion. Rick Hidley, Executive Director-Alupro opened the black tie dinner. He shed light on the various campaigns undertaken by the organization over the years which helped to raise the recycling rate of aluminium packaging from as low as 2% in 1989 to 43% in 2013.

Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Water, Forestry, Rural Affairs and Resource Management, Dan Rogerson MP applauded Alupro on its achievement. He hoped that in the upcoming years, Alupro with the strong support by its members will be successful in recycling more quantities of the material.

Alupro is a UK based non-profit organization responsible for encouraging and developing recycling collection initiatives. Alupro works in partnership with local authorities, the waste management industry and the community recycling sector to develop and stimulate the UK’s collection infrastructure. It also undertakes consumer information and education campaigns to encourage participation in recycling schemes. ‘MetalMatters’ and ‘Every Can Counts’ are two notable campaigns that Alupro worked with.
