Joseph and Company’s beginnings started in 1880 with the opening of a second hand store by John Lewis. By 1907 the business had expanded to two locations, one being run by him, the other by his wife. In 1910, Barney Joseph, having just emigrated from Poland, would buy the business from the Lewis’ and kept running it as a recycling and second hand store in the same location.
Joseph and Company then expand its recycling services to include paper, boxes, glove leather, bones and eventually ferrous and non ferrous metals. In 1971, they were recycling 150 tonnes of material per year from the box companies in the area.
Today, the company’s focus is on non-ferrous and ferrous recycling and waste management. And while we haven’t always been called Joseph and Company, our core values of honesty, trust and integrity and the spirit of recycling have always been a part of what we’ve stood for since 1880!
Our mission is to create value for our customers by diverting as much non-waste material from the landfill as possible. We are always looking for new markets and constantly improving on our processes to provide our customers with the best value for their recyclables.
