Plastics Industry Association Announces Eighth Annual Bioplastics Week

Washington D.C.— The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) announced the eighth annual Bioplastics Week beginning today, October 2^nd through Friday, October 6^th.

Bioplastics Week includes a social media campaign created to increase visibility for bioplastics by driving digital conversations via social media posts featuring materials such as infographics, reports, blog posts, and videos.

PLASTICS encourages participants to use the hashtag, #BioplasticsWeek, on all relevant posts which can include educational content about material or product innovations, applications for bioplastics, and how to dispose of bioplastic products properly to keep them in the circular economy. This hashtag will enable consumers, brands, government officials, as well as the broader plastics industry to learn about bioplastics on a much larger scale than would be possible through individual posts.

In the past 7 years, the bioplastics industry has grown significantly, with remarkable innovation and investment,” said Patrick Krieger, PLASTICS’ Vice President of Sustainability.  “This week, we encourage everyone to take the opportunity to learn more about bioplastics, what they are and where people can find them."

PLASTICS’ Bioplastics Division identified five major themes to focus on throughout Bioplastics Week:

• Monday, October 2 – Alternatives to Fossil Fuels
• Tuesday, October 3 – End of Life Options for Bioplastics
• Wednesday, October 4 – Innovations in Bioplastics
• Thursday, October 5 – Policy Solutions (US and Global)
• Friday, October 6 – Be a Supporter of the Bioplastics Industry
