Characteristics

6061-T6 Aluminum Diamond Plate - Strength, skid resistance, and durability are the primary selling points of this product. Although its mill finish is not as flashy as 3003 grade.

Strength — 6061 tread sheet and plate is heat treated and aged to the -T6 temper to provide the highest strength standard tread product available. This property makes 6061 tread ideally suited for consideration in applications where heaviest loading is involved.

Durability — Long-term performance in loading ramp, trench cover, dock board, dock plate, flooring, stair tread, and other similar applications has established 6061-T6 tread as a preferred product. High strength is combined with corrosion resistance and light weight to highlight 6061 compatibility with many applications.

Skid Resistance — The raised diamond tread design provides improved footing where needed. Improved footing is maintained due to high durability.

Aluminum diamond plate, sometimes called aluminum tread plate, aluminum floor plate, or aluminum checker plate, is available in 6061-T6 and 3003-H14 sizes. The 6061-T6 alloy has a dull mill finish and is harder and more durable, and the 3003-H14 has shiny bright finish, and is softer and more formable. Aluminum tread plate is commonly seen on fire trucks and truck toolboxes.

The aluminum 6061 alloy is strong, easily machined, and weldable. Aluminum 6061 alloys are doubled the strength of aluminum 6063 alloys. It has a thicknesses of 0.250 inch (6.35 mm) or less, it has elongation of 8% or more; in thicker sections, it has elongation of 10%. T651 temper has similar mechanical properties.
