UK recovered paper exports hit new record in February

CANTERBURY (Scrap Monster): The latest export statistics released by the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) and HM Revenue & Customs indicates that the recovered paper exports during the month of February this year touched new heights. The recovered paper exporters have reported highest shipment quantity than any of the previous months.

As per statistics, the UK’s recovered paper exports totaled 529,993 tonnes during February this year. This is 5% higher than the previous record high of 505,539 tonnes of export reported during January 2012. Also, the cumulative shipments during the initial two-month period of the current year totaled 972,893 tonnes, significantly higher by over 24% when compared with the shipments during the corresponding two-month period in 2015. The UK recovered paper exports had totaled 783, 328 tonnes during Jan-Feb ’15.

The collections too surged higher during the first two months of 2016. The UK collections of recovered paper climbed higher by almost 9% during this period to 1.476 million tonnes, when compared with Jan-Feb ’15.

Meanwhile, UK’s domestic production of paper and board declined by 9.2% to 633,597 tonnes during January to February this year, when matched with 697,794 tonnes during the same period last year. Domestic consumption by mills fell drastically by nearly 16.6% over the previous year to 515,625 tonnes during Jan-Feb ’16.

It must be noted that UK’s recovered paper exports had touched all-time record of 4.88 million tonnes during 2015.
