Catalyst Paper’s Maine mill launches new value-added paper-based labelling solution

VANCOUVER (Scrap Monster): Catalyst Paper has announced the launch of Trident, a full wet strength label paper. The product was produced at the company’s Rumford mill in Maine, USA. The introduction of the new product is part of Catalyst’s efforts to expand its value-based products portfolio.

Trident is available in two basis weights-47 and 60 pounds per 3,300 ft2, which offers wet opacity of 76% and 80% respectively. The print side smoothness and gloss finish of the product ensures excellent printability. The product is specially designed for cold glue and hot melt adhesives. The coatings on Trident makes it ideal for offset and flexographic printing. Furthermore, the excellent wet strength offers high durability of the labels. The Trident paper-based solution can be used for application on wide variety of bottles including juice bottles, large format containers, water bottles, craft beer and wine bottles.

According to the company, the launch of Trident demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the label market. Brian Boland, Vice President, Specialty Papers & New Product Development stated that the company is excited to launch the new product which is expected to cater to the needs of both convertors and brand owners. The launch also reinforces the company’s commitment to specialty market products. Trudent promises extra durability, extra wet opacity and superior printability, Boland noted. The product also conforms to Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

It must be noted that Catalyst Paper’s Biron, Wisconsin mill had recently launched an entire range of new flexible, lightweight food packaging solution. Branded as LEAP, the packaging paper was specially designed for complete food packaging applications from flat or pinch bottom bags and poly and adhesive laminated products to sugar packets, refrigerated & frozen foods and ice cream treats.

Prior to that, the company had also released a new product named ‘Glide Graphics’, that was designed exclusively for large-size graphic applications used in transportation, fleet and vehicle graphics, and commercial graphics.
