Cascades Inc. enters into $10 million partnership deal with Quebec recycling firm

MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): Cascades Inc. has entered into a multimillion dollar partnership deal with recycling service provider Tricentris. As per sources, the three-year deal is valued at more than $10 million. As per conditions of the partnership deal, Cascades will have access to cardboards collected at three Quebec sorting facilities of Tricentris located in Lachute, Terrebonne and Gatineau.

Cascades Inc. expects to receive nearly 75,000 tonnes of cardboard from Tricentris’ facilities over the next three-year period. Tricentris will transfer cardboards obtained through selective collection and sorting from blue bins. The cardboards thus collected will be processed into new products. The proximity of business operations of the two partnering companies in Lachute will help to minimize environmental footprint and reduce transportation costs. The deal is also expected to contribute significantly to the local and federal economies.

According to Luc Langevin, president and COO of Cascade’s Specialty Products Group, the partnership with Tricentris will help to propel circular economy. Further, it demonstrates how economic growth and conservation of natural resources can go hand in hand. The company takes pride in manufacturing premium products for customers by making extensive use of discarded paper products, thereby giving new life to materials that could otherwise end up in landfills, added Langevin. Meantime, Frédéric Potvin, General Manager of Tricentris noted that the deal is consistent with the values and visions of both the companies.

As part of deal announcement, Cascades and Tricentris released brief video on their respective Facebook pages, featuring the steps involved in transforming discarded cardboard from recycling bin into new premium products. Making an appearance in the video, David Heurtel, Minister of Sustainable Development, the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change stated that the outstanding initiative by the two companies is another example of modern, green and thriving economy.

Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products that are composed mainly of recycled fibres. The Company employs close to 11,000 employees, who work in over 90 production units located in North America and Europe. From a manufacturer of primarily paper and cartonboard, the Corporation has emerged as the largest collector of recyclable materials in Canada, as well as one of the major converters of corrugated packaging products, tissue papers and specialty products in North America.

Tricentris is one of the leading Quebec-based recycling and sorting companies, which serves nearly 2 million homes across the province of Quebec.
