Scrap Metal Prices: Weekly Market Update Report– November 7-13, 2025
Copper scrap prices continued their upward momentum last week, with the most significant gains observed in categories such as Xmas Lights, Starters, Sealed Units, and Scrap Electric Motors.
MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): The weekly market price trends in North America for various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of November 7-13, 2025 are given in the report that follows:
Copper scrap prices continued their upward momentum last week, with the most significant gains observed in categories such as Xmas Lights, Starters, Sealed Units, and Scrap Electric Motors. The rise reflects sustained demand in the recycling and manufacturing sectors, indicating a bullish trend for copper in the short term.
Aluminum scrap prices largely remained stable, with the exception of E.C. Aluminum Wire, which saw minor fluctuations on the Scrap Monster Price Index. Brass and bronze scrap experienced broad-based price increases week-over-week, signaling growing market interest in these alloys. Lead and zinc scrap prices, however, held steady, showing little movement across major markets.
Steel scrap prices—including #1 HMS, Shredded Auto Scrap, HMS 80/20, and #1 Busheling—remained flat across global markets. Stainless steel scrap prices in North America also held steady week-over-week, while select categories in China recorded slight declines, reflecting regional market adjustments amid variable demand.
Overall, the scrap metal market showed a mixed trend last week, with copper leading gains and other metals experiencing stability or minor regional fluctuations, highlighting ongoing volatility in global recycling and commodity markets.

NON-FERROUS SCRAP
Market Drivers
- Global Market and Regional Dynamics – Regional consumption trends and market conditions play a crucial role in determining scrap prices. Asia-Pacific markets, particularly China and India, dominate non-ferrous scrap consumption. Shifts in industrial demand, logistics challenges, and processing capacity in these regions create ripple effects in global pricing, causing both short-term volatility and long-term market trends.
Scrap Quality and Contamination Levels – The purity and sorting of scrap directly impact its market value. Clean, well-sorted non-ferrous scrap such as copper wire, aluminium, and brass fetch premium prices, while contaminated or mixed-grade materials are often discounted. Quality-conscious buyers are willing to pay more for scrap that is ready for immediate processing, emphasizing the importance of proper preparation and handling.
- Trade Policies and Regulatory Changes – International trade rules, import/export restrictions, and regional quality standards significantly influence scrap flows and pricing. Policy changes, such as export limits on aluminium scrap or stricter import regulations in China, can tighten supply or shift demand geographically. Suppliers who provide compliant and export-ready material benefit from better market access and pricing stability.

FERROUS SCRAP
Market Drivers
- Global Steel Prices and Market Trends — Scrap prices are influenced by fluctuations in global steel prices. When steel prices rise due to increased demand or supply constraints, scrap becomes more valuable as a feedstock. Conversely, a slowdown in steel production or market overcapacity can reduce scrap demand and suppress prices.
- Scrap Quality and Grade Availability — The quality and type of ferrous scrap, such as HMS #1, HMS #2, or shredded auto scrap, significantly affect pricing. Clean, sorted, and high-grade scrap commands a premium, while mixed or contaminated scrap may be discounted, influencing market dynamics.
- Global Supply Chain and Logistics — Transportation costs, port congestion, and regional scrap processing capacity affect the availability and price of ferrous scrap. Efficient logistics and processing infrastructure help maintain supply stability, while disruptions can lead to localized shortages and price spikes.
- Technological Advancements in Recycling — Innovations in scrap sorting, shredding, and metallurgical processing increase the efficiency and yield of ferrous recycling. Advanced technologies allow for higher recovery rates of high-quality scrap, supporting demand and enabling recyclers to meet industrial standards more effectively.

Expert Quote:
“Scrap is becoming a strategic factor for the future of European steelmakers … the export of approximately 20 million tons of scrap from Europe, mainly to Türkiye, is a significant loss for the economy.” — Mario Arvedi Caldonazzo, Chairman of Arvedi Group & Vice‑President of EUROFER.
Outlook
- Flat short‑term pricing – Many markets are seeing little price appreciation in the near term, as demand and supply are balanced.
- Seasonal softness ahead – Late‑year and winter months typically bring lower scrap collection and steel mill activity, which may dampen upward momentum.
- Regional variation in demand – Some regions (e.g., India) are weaker due to slower construction and manufacturing, while others remain more stable.
- EAF steelmaking growth – The shift to electric arc furnace (EAF) steel‑making supports scrap demand, as EAFs are feedstock‑intensive.
- Sustainability / circular economy tailwinds – Scrap is increasingly treated as strategic in decarbonisation efforts, boosting its importance.
- Export market pressure – Global scrap trade flows and export competition can influence local prices and availability.
- Global overcapacity risk in steel – Excess steelmaking capacity, particularly in some regions, may suppress steel‑and‑thus‑scrap prices.
