Laval, December 1, 2016 – Total Metal Recovery (TMR) Inc., a Quebec company known for its metal recovery and recycling expertise, today revealed the details about the construction of a new metal recycling plant in Laval’s new Industrial Park 25-440. The announcement was made at the construction site with Laval Mayor Marc Demers in attendance.

Financed by a $70 million investment from a group of private investors, this new metal recycling plant will feature innovative technology and create 70 new jobs. The facilities will be built on a 777,000 square-foot lot in the heart of Industrial Park 25-440 and will include four main buildings and some of the world’s most efficient recycling equipment. Construction is already well underway and the plant is expected to be operational in early 2017.

“After years of research, analysis and planning, we’re now on the verge of inaugurating the most modern and eco-friendly metal recycling plant in North America. It will become the new industry benchmark and our processes will comply with the highest environmental standards. Plus, we expect the plant to reduce greenhouse gases by 487.3 tonnes per year. We are also very proud to be the first business in Laval’s Industrial Park 25-440,” said Jean-Guy Hamelin, President and CEO of Total Metal Recovery (TMR) Inc.

The new metal sorting centre in Laval will have the capacity to receive and process up to 50,000 tonnes of scrap metal per month for recycling and reuse. This includes auto bodies, electrical appliances and a wide variety of industrial metal scraps. With the latest generation of metal sorting equipment, even very small pieces of metal will be recovered and sorted as ferrous or non-ferrous metals (such as aluminum and copper). Recycled products will then be shipped to foundries and steel mills around the world, where they will be given a second life.
