The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior HR Advisor - Employee Relations to manage employee and labour relations programs to ensure compliance with policies and practices. Provides specialist employment relationship service and advice on labour related issues to ensure consistent and fair implementation and adherence to policy, legislation and sound employee relations. Represents the organisation in contract negotiations with labour unions. Administers collective bargaining agreements and grievances. Develops and implements policies and procedures, including grievance procedures and exit interviews.
GBS People Services is a human resource function that provides alignment and support to the Rio Tinto Group. The team is responsible for recruitment, benefits, compensation, and capability development services.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity to manage the employee relations function to ensure that employee issues are handled in a fair and equitable manner according to relevant legislation and internal policies and procedures. Working a 5 days on 2 off roster, you will be:

  • Provides accurate and sound employee relations advice to site based human resource teams and operational leaders in relation to case management, investigation processes, grievance and dispute resolution, fair treatment claims, and policy application.
  • Provides advice on interpretation and application of industrial instruments, employment legislation obligations and policies.
  • Provides advice and support to human resource and operational staff in managing union right of entry applications and bargaining approaches.
  • Conducts training in relation to employee relations issues and improve the employee relations capability of the human resource teams.
  • Undertakes projects individually or as a member of a team that address employee relations or employee engagements issues.
  • Develops strong, collaborative relationships with business unit human resources leaders and their teams across a region.

Experience5 to 10 years of relevant ER experience in the mining and/or manufacturing industry
QualificationBachelor’s Degree of Industrial Relations, Human Resources or other connected discipline
