Vice President of Engineering in

Our client is a full service engineering and consulting firm. The Firm provides high quality services to private and public clients in the solid waste, industrial, mining, oil & gas, commercial and government market sectors. The Vice President of Engineering will be positioned at their headquarters.

The team consists of a dedicated group of professional engineers, professional geologists, engineers-in-training, GRI-certified CQA inspectors and Qualified Environmental Professionals with practical experience helping clients resolve complex engineering and environmental challenges. Our client is a growth oriented organization having successfully opened a second office in 2013. This location was added in order to meet the continued growth in demand for engineering and environmental services in the oil and gas market. The office continues to grow at a rapid pace as a result of market and client demand.

Opportunity

Our client has an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, results oriented and proven Engineering professional to assume the newly created role of Vice President of Engineering. The selected candidate will provide overall leadership for a cross functional engineering organization and serve as a member of the senior leadership team. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership by growing the Firm’s technical competence, enabling metrics driven decisions, facilitating quality delivery on-time and within budget, and by implementing practices designed to measure and deliver engineering optimization. S/he will also be a critical participant in strategic decisions related to market opportunities, technical competency development, and the regulatory environment.

Reporting Structure

This role reports directly to the President and is accountable for the overall performance and impact of the engineering organization. S/he will provide matrixed oversight and guidance to the organization at all levels and across all market sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Vice President of Engineering will be required to address high-level strategic initiatives while simultaneously having involvement in more tactical, day-to-day operations. The position requires extensive interaction, coordination and communication with the Business Development, Commercial, Engineering, Operations and Technical Services departments. The successful candidate will:

Provide leadership that supports the design, development and implementation of engineering initiatives.
Develop project management expertise that provides governance to cross-functional teams in the preparation of estimates, schedules, bid packages and construction of well planned projects that are safely executed at budgeted costs and on schedule.
Provide leadership and expertise required in a timely manner in order to facilitate project completion in compliance with office and regulatory standards.
Maintains a presence and visibility in the market overall – plays a key role in the capture of projects representing our client as required with clients, targets and industry associations.
Oversee all aspects of design, construction and testing. Serves as an escalation point on designs and projects for conformance with overall plans and needs.
Develops and maintains standards for the quality and quality control of engineering documents, calculations and drawings produced by the organization.
Supervise report creation, design calculations, design plans and specifications.
Review cost estimates and supervise bid process.
Oversee the development of design and construction schedules.
Analyze complex data relevant to project design.

Qualifications

Must have college degree in Engineering and be a Professional Engineer.
Minimum fifteen (15) years of experience in increasingly responsible Engineering leadership positions.
Extensive experience in Solid Waste Services, Oil & Gas Services or Mining Services preferred.
Technical practice areas of particular interest are Geotechnical (as it relates to Solid Waste, Oil & Gas, or Mining) Wastewater (landfill, industrial, mining, oil and gas – not municipal).
Project management experience must include a proven track record of effectively managing clients and projects to safe, timely and profitable completion.
Knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and specifications.
Leadership, management and influence skills that demonstrate an ability to develop and implement a vision with proven commercial success.
A demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key decision makers across the organization.
Strong analytical skill set with proven judgment-making abilities that emphasize strategic and business planning and financial acumen.
Well versed in the collection and/or evaluation of data and information regarding technical and economic factors including physical, chemical, environmental, maintenance, operational, regulatory, constructability, and/or schedule factors relating to a specific subject within a discipline.
Ability to think strategically, but also focus on tactical and operational issues.
Track record of building strong and effective teams with complementary skills.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.
