Scrap Metal Price: Weekly Market Report- October 2-9, 2025
Copper and Aluminum scrap prices showed a mixed trend with most categories rising, while Brass/Bronze scrap (except Brass Radiator Ends) gained week-on-week.
MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): The weekly market price trends in North America for various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of October 2-9, 2025, are given in the report that follows:
NON-FERROUS SCRAP
Copper and Aluminum scrap prices showed a mixed trend with most categories rising, while Brass/Bronze scrap (except Brass Radiator Ends) gained week-on-week. Lead scrap remained steady, and Zinc scrap edged higher on the Scrap Monster Price Index.
Market Drivers
- Tariffs, import/export restrictions- U.S. tariffs on imported aluminum, copper, or finished metal push buyers toward scrap (which often faces lower tariffs) or shift trade routes.
- Trade policy- U.S. plans to require a portion of “high-quality” copper scrap to be retained domestically (implementation phased toward 2027) — this can tighten export flows and raise domestic availability for smelters.
- Global demand & macroeconomic cycles- Downturns or upturns in major economic sectors (construction, automotive, electronics, infrastructure) drive demand for metals and hence for scrap.

FERROUS MARKET OUTLOOK
- Modest Recovery in Steel Demand: Global steel demand is projected to increase by 1.6% in 2025, following a 1.8% decline in 2024.
- Stable Scrap Recycling Growth: The global ferrous scrap recycling market is expected to continue its steady growth, with projections indicating a rise from USD 166.29 billion in 2024 to USD 279.28 billion by 2034
- Trade Policy Uncertainties: Recent trade policy shifts, such as the European Union's proposal to halve its tariff-free steel import quota and impose a 50% tariff on excess imports from countries including the UK, China, India, and Turkey, may disrupt global scrap flows and impact pricing dynamics
These factors suggest a cautiously optimistic outlook for the ferrous metals market in 2025.
