MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): North American scrap metal buying benchmarks were largely unchanged on the ScrapMonster Price Index on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with copper the only major category to record a price movement.
Major clean copper grades gained 2¢/lb, while aluminum, steel, stainless steel and brass/bronze held steady across all listed categories.

SCRAPMONSTER EDGE
Copper's 2¢/lb gain was only a partial rebound from Wednesday's selloff. The same major clean grades had fallen 11¢/lb on September 23, leaving them still 9¢/lb lower across the two sessions.
Copper Scrap Prices
Copper was the only major scrap category to move higher during the September 24 session.
#1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, #1 Copper Bare Bright and #3 Copper-Light Copper each ▲ gained 2¢/lb.
Alternator Scrap, #1 Insulated Copper Wire with 85% Recovery and #2 Insulated Copper Wire with 50% Recovery were → unchanged.
Copper Radiator Scrap and Copper Transformer Scrap also held steady.
Cu Yokes, Cu/Al Radiator Ends, Cu/Al Radiators and Cu/Al Radiators/Fe recorded no change.
Harness Wire with 35% Recovery, Romex Wire, Heater Cores, Scrap Electric Motors, Starters, Sealed Units and Xmas Lights were also → flat.
Copper Benchmark Check
Broader copper benchmarks were mixed but relatively stable on September 24.
COMEX December copper closed at approximately $6.7668/lb, modestly above the prior session. LME cash copper settled at $14,765/MT, up $30/MT from September 23, while the LME three-month contract eased to $14,640/MT.
Scrap/futures read: The 2¢/lb increase in clean copper scrap was broadly consistent with the firmer COMEX and LME cash markets, although the slightly softer LME three-month contract showed that the broader copper complex was not uniformly higher.
Aluminum Scrap Prices
Aluminum scrap prices were unchanged across all tracked grades.
1100 Scrap, 3003 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels, 6063 Extrusions/Fe, 5052 Scrap, 6061 Extrusions and 6063 Extrusions were all → flat.
Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers and Breakage 50% Recovery also recorded no movement.
E.C. Aluminum Wire, Chrome Wheels, Litho Sheets, MLC Clips, Mixed Aluminum Turnings, Old Cast, UBC, Old Sheet, Painted Siding and Zorba 90% NF were unchanged.
Steel Scrap Prices
Steel scrap prices remained completely flat during the session.
#1 Bundle, #1 Busheling, #1 HMS and HMS 80/20 recorded no change.
Sheet Metal, Shredded Auto Scrap and Structural Steel were also → unchanged.
Stainless Steel Scrap Prices
Stainless steel prices held steady across all listed grades.
201 SS, 301 SS, 304 SS Solid, 304 SS Turning, 309 SS, 310 SS, 330 SS and 316 SS Solid were all → unchanged.
Brass/Bronze Scrap Prices
Brass and bronze scrap prices were unchanged across the North American benchmark.
70/30 Brass Scrap, 80/20 Brass Scrap, 85/15 Brass Scrap and Brass Radiator Scrap all remained flat.
Brass Radiator/Fe and Brass Radiator Ends also held at their previous-day levels.
Red Brass, Red Borings and Yellow Brass recorded no fluctuation.

The September 24 session was quiet outside copper. Aluminum, steel, stainless steel and brass/bronze all held completely flat across the tracked grades.
Copper's 2¢/lb advance provided a modest rebound after the sharp 11¢/lb decline recorded one day earlier, but it did not erase that pullback. Across the two sessions, the major clean copper grades remained 9¢/lb lower.
The broader copper market offered a similar mixed but relatively stable signal, with COMEX and LME cash copper firmer while the LME three-month contract eased slightly.
