North American Copper Scrap Gains 5 Cents as Brass Edges Higher
Four major clean copper grades advanced $0.05 per lb on September 9, while selected copper grades and major brass/bronze categories gained $0.01 per lb. Aluminum, steel and stainless steel remained unchanged on the ScrapMonster Price Index.

MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): North American scrap metal prices were mostly unchanged on the ScrapMonster Price Index on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Copper recorded the strongest movement, with four major clean grades rising $0.05 per lb, while brass/bronze posted smaller gains. Aluminum, steel and stainless steel remained flat.
Copper Scrap Prices
#1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, #1 Copper Bare Bright and #3 Copper-Light Copper each increased $0.05 per lb.
#1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery and #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery each gained $0.01 per lb. Copper Radiator and Romex Wire also rose $0.01 per lb.
Alternator scrap was unchanged.
Copper Transformer Scrap, Cu Yokes, Cu/Al Radiator Ends, Cu/Al Radiators/Fe, Cu/Al Radiators, Harness Wire 35% Recovery and Heater Cores remained flat.
Scrap Electric Motors, Starters, Sealed Units and Xmas Lights also recorded no change from the previous day.
Aluminum Scrap Prices
Aluminum scrap prices were unchanged across all listed categories.
1100 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels, 6063 Extrusions/Fe, 6063 Extrusions, 5052 Scrap and 6061 Extrusions held steady.
Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers and Breakage 50% Recovery were also unchanged.
E.C. Aluminum Wire, Chrome Wheels, Litho Sheets, MLC Clips, Mixed Aluminum Turnings, Old Cast, UBC, Old Sheet, Painted Siding and Zorba 90% NF remained flat.
Steel Scrap Prices
Steel scrap prices recorded no movement on September 9.
#1 Bundle, #1 Busheling and #1 HMS remained unchanged.
HMS 80/20, Sheet Metal, Shredded Auto Scrap and Structural Steel also held steady from the previous day.
Stainless Steel Scrap Prices
Stainless steel prices were flat across every listed grade.
201 SS, 301 SS, 304 SS Solid and 304 SS Turning were unchanged. Prices for 309 SS, 310 SS, 330 SS and 316 SS Solid also remained steady.
Brass/Bronze Scrap Prices
Brass and bronze scrap prices posted modest gains across several major categories.
70/30 Brass Scrap, 80/20 Brass Scrap, 85/15 Brass Scrap and Brass Radiator each increased $0.01 per lb.
Red Brass, Red Borings and Yellow Brass also gained $0.01 per lb.
Brass Radiator/Fe and Brass Radiator Ends were unchanged from the previous day.
