North American Scrap Prices Mixed as Copper, Brass Gains on the Index- August 5, 2026

Copper and brass/bronze scrap prices moved higher, steel and stainless steel scrap prices held steady.

TORONTO (Scrap Monster): North American aluminum scrap metal prices displayed a mixed trend on the Scrap Monster Price Index on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Copper and brass/bronze scrap prices moved higher, while steel and stainless steel scrap prices held steady. 

  • Copper: Broad-based jump on the Index

  • Aluminum: Mixed trend

  • Brass/Bronze: Edged higher

  • Stainless Steel: Saw no variation

  • Steel: Remained unchanged

Copper Scrap Prices

Copper Scrap Prices Record Modest Gains

Copper scrap was the clearest positive mover in the North American market. Alternator scrap prices edged higher by $0.02 per Lb. The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, and #3 Copper-Light Copper increased by $0.11 per Lb.

#1 Insulated Copper Wire 85% Recovery and #2 Insulated Copper Wire 50% Recovery also were up by $0.03 per Lb each.

The prices of Copper Transformer Scrap and Xmas Lights advanced by $0.01 per Lb each, while Cu Yokes, Heater Cores, Scrap Electric Motors, Sealed Units, and Starters prices recorded a jump of $0.02 per Lb.

Harness Wire 35% Recovery and Romex Wire prices edged higher by $0.03 per Lb each.

Copper Radiators and Cu/Al Radiator Ends prices increased by $0.04 per Lb and $0.05 per Lb, respectively, while Cu/Al Radiators and Cu/Al Radiators/Fe prices jumped $15 per Lb each on the Index.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

Aluminum Scrap Posts Mixed Trend

Aluminum scrap prices were largely stable, with Al/Cu Radiators and Al/Cu Radiators/Fe jumping by 15 cents each. Also, E.C. Aluminum Wire stood out as the only listed category to move lower. E.C. Aluminum Wire prices declined by $0.01 per lb on the Index.

The rest of the aluminum board was unchanged. 1100 Scrap, 3003 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels, 6063 Extrusions, 6063 Extrusions/Fe, 5052 Scrap, 6061 Extrusions, Aluminum Radiators and Aluminum Radiators/Fe all held steady.

Aluminum Transformers, Breakage 50% Recovery, Chrome Wheels, Litho Sheets, MLC Clips, Mixed Aluminum Turnings, Old Cast, UBC, Old Sheet, Painted Siding and Zorba 90% NF also recorded no change on the day.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap Prices Remain Flat Across Major Grades

Steel scrap prices also held steady. #1 Bundle, #1 Busheling, #1 HMS, HMS 80/20, Sheet Metal, Shredded Auto Scrap and Structural Steel all showed no day-over-day movement.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

Stainless Steel Prices Show No Variation

Stainless steel scrap prices were stable across the listed grades. 201 SS, 301 SS, 304 SS Solid, 304 SS Turning, 309 SS, 310 SS, 330 SS and 316 SS Solid all remained unchanged on the Index.

Brass/Bronze Scrap Prices

Brass and bronze scrap prices increased modestly over the previous day. Most major grades rose by $0.03 per lb on the Scrap Monster Price Index.

  • 70/30 Brass Scrap, 80/20 Brass Scrap, 85/15 Brass Scrap, Brass Radiator, Red Brass, Red Borings, and Yellow Brass

A Few Grades Hold Steady

Brass Radiator/Fe and Brass Radiator Ends held steady compared with the previous day.
