TORONTO (Scrap Monster): North American copper and brass/bronze scrap prices edged higher on the ScrapMonster Price Index as of Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Aluminum scrap prices recorded mixed trend, while all other commodities remained stable.
- Copper prices posted a slight increase
- Aluminum prices showed mixed movement
- Brass and bronze prices edged upward
- Stainless steel prices remained unchanged
- Steel prices stayed flat
Copper Scrap Prices
Alternator scrap prices edged up by $0.01/lb from the previous day’s levels.
#1 Copper Wire and Tubing, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, and #1 Copper Bare Bright prices each advanced by $0.18/lb.
#1 Insulated Copper Wire (85% recovery) and #2 Insulated Copper Wire (50% recovery) gained $0.05/lb apiece, while #3 Copper (light copper) climbed by $0.18/lb.
Copper Radiator scrap posted a notable increase of $0.06/lb. Copper Transformer Scrap inched up by $0.01/lb, whereas Cu Yokes rose by $0.02/lb.
Cu/Al Radiator Ends held steady as of May 6, 2026.
Cu/Al Radiators and Cu/Al Radiators/Fe both recorded gains of $0.05/lb.
Harness Wire (35% recovery) and Romex Wire prices moved higher by $0.05/lb each, while Heater Cores increased by $0.04/lb.
Scrap Electric Motors, Starters, Sealed Units, and Xmas Lights all registered marginal gains of $0.01/lb compared with the previous day.
Aluminum Scrap Prices
1100 Scrap prices remained unchanged on the day, while 3003 Scrap also traded flat on the Index.
356 Aluminum Wheels and 6063 Extrusions/Fe recorded no movement, with 6063 Extrusions continuing to hold steady.
5052 Scrap and 6061 Extrusions prices were unchanged from the previous day’s levels.
Al/Cu Radiators and Al/Cu Radiators/Fe each advanced by $0.05/lb, whereas Aluminum Radiators, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage (50% recovery) remained stable as of May 6, 2026.
E.C. Aluminum Wire registered a marginal decline of $0.01/lb on the Index.
Chrome Wheels, Litho Sheets, and MLC Clips maintained steady pricing, while Mixed Aluminum Turnings also saw no variation.
Old Cast and UBC prices remained flat compared with the previous day. Similarly, Old Sheet, Painted Siding, and Zorba 90% NF continued to trade at stable levels.
Steel Scrap Prices
- #1 Bundle prices remained unchanged on the day.
- #1 Busheling continued to trade flat compared with the previous session.
- #1 HMS prices held steady, while HMS 80/20 also maintained stable pricing levels.
Sheet Metal, Shredded Auto Scrap, and Structural Steel recorded no price movement as of May 6, 2026.
Stainless Steel Scrap Prices
201 SS and 301 SS prices remained unchanged on the Index.
304 SS Solid traded flat compared with the previous day, while 304 SS Turning also recorded no price movement as of May 6, 2026.
309 SS and 310 SS prices held steady at prior levels, with 330 SS also remaining flat.
316 SS Solid prices likewise showed no variation on the Index.
Brass/Bronze Scrap Prices
North American brass and bronze scrap prices registered a marginal uptick on the Index.
70/30 Brass Scrap, 85/15 Brass Scrap, and Brass Radiator scrap prices each climbed by $0.05/lb as of Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
Meanwhile, 80/20 Brass Scrap, Brass Radiator/Fe, and Brass Radiator Ends remained unchanged from the previous day’s levels.
Red Brass, Red Borings, and Yellow Brass prices also advanced by $0.05/lb on the Index.
