Hallmarked Precious Metals Market

Hallmarked gold scrap prices declined across key purity grades over October 9-15, 2026, according to the ScrapMonster Price Index, extending the weak trend recorded during the previous week.

The continued decline in hallmarked gold scrap prices over the past week was primarily driven by rising US 10-year Treasury bond yields, which reduced the appeal of non-yielding assets like gold; a stronger US dollar, which made gold more expensive for foreign buyers; and widespread profit-taking by speculative investors following earlier record-high market runs.

Fourteen-carat scrap gold fell slightly by $3.47 per ounce, while 18-carat material registered a similar weekly loss of $4.45 per ounce.  Also, twenty-two-carat scrap gold declined by $5.43 per ounce on the Index.

Meanwhile, 9-carat scrap gold also trended lower, shedding $2.23 per ounce over the week.

Within the broader precious metals segment, hallmarked silver scrap prices edged lower by $1.20 per ounce, or ↓2.65%, to close at $44.06 per ounce during the October9-15, 2026 period.

The chart below illustrates the weekly price trajectory for hallmarked silver scrap.

Platinum scrap recorded a slight rebound, rising by $9.48 per Oz (↑0.80%) to close the week at a higher rate over the previous week. investors and refiners viewed the lowered price levels as a buying opportunity, thus driving fresh demand. Profit-taking in record-high markets prompted capital to temporarily shift into relatively undervalued precious metals like platinum. Ongoing production disruptions and operational bottlenecks in major mining regions continued to limit primary supply, lending underlying support to recycled metal prices.

Silver scrap prices followed a downward trajectory, falling by $1.16 per ounce (↓2.67%) compared with the previous week. The dip in prices was mainly due to rising real US Treasury yields, firming US dollar strength, and sluggish industrial activity, particularly across the solar and electronics sectors.
