Chinese Scrap Metal Prices See Robust Gains Across Categories on the Index– September 3, 2026

Copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and brass/bronze scrap prices jumped compared to the previous day, while steel scrap prices remained steady on the Index.

Summary

Copper scrap prices posted strong gains: Major copper grades, including #1 Bare Bright, #1 Copper Wire and Tubing, and #2 Copper Wire and Tubing, increased by CNY 250 per MT, while several insulated copper grades and heater cores also advanced.
Aluminum and stainless steel moved higher: Aluminum scrap prices registered widespread increases, with several grades gaining CNY 250 per MT. Stainless steel scrap also advanced, led by a CNY 250-per-MT increase in 310 SS and CNY 150-per-MT gains in several other grades.
Brass/bronze edged higher while steel stayed stable: Red Brass and Yellow Brass increased by CNY 50 per MT, whereas #1 HMS and Cast Iron Scrap prices remained unchanged on the Index.

BEIJING (Scrap Monster): Chinese scrap metal prices recorded notable gains on the ScrapMonster Price Index as of Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Copper: Strong gains across all grades
Aluminum: Displayed upward momentum
Brass/Bronze: Broad-based price increases
Stainless Steel: Posted modest gains
Steel: Prices remained stable

Copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and brass/bronze scrap prices jumped compared to the previous day, while steel scrap prices remained steady on the Index.

Copper Scrap Prices

Copper scrap prices saw broad-based gains on the Index.

#1 Copper Bare Bright and #1 Copper Wire and Tubing both surged by CNY 250 per MT compared to the previous day. Also, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing rose by CNY 250 per MT.

#1 Insulated Copper Wire with 85% recovery climbed CNY 100 per MT, and #2 Insulated Copper Wire (50% recovery) recorded an increase of CNY 50 per MT.

Copper Transformer scrap and Cu Yokes prices were flat over the previous day.

Cu/Al Radiator scrap jumped CNY 50 per MT, while Harness Wire (35% recovery) held steady on the Index.

Heater Cores gained CNY 100 per MT, while Scrap Electric Motors and Sealed Units recorded no variation on the Index.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

6063 Extrusions and Aluminum Ingots witnessed a jump of CNY 250 per MT in prices over the previous day.

The prices of Aluminum Radiators and Aluminum Transformers were up by CNY 100 per MT each on the Index.

E.C Aluminum Wire, Old Cast, and Old Sheet prices increased by CNY 250 per MT on the Index.

UBC and Zorba 90% INF prices increased by CNY 100 per MT each from the previous day’s price.

Steel Scrap Prices

#1 HMS prices held steady on the Index.

Cast Iron Scrap reported no change in prices.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices

201 SS: Saw an increase of CNY 100 per MT
304 SS Solid, 304 SS Turning, Shred SS: Witnessed a jump of CNY 150 per MT on the Index.
309 SS, 316 SS Solid: Recorded a jump of CNY 150 per MT
310 SS: Edged higher by CNY 250 per MT

Brass/Bronze Scrap Prices

The Brass/Bronze Scrap prices in China recorded a slight jump on the Index.

Brass Radiator: Held steady
Red Brass, Yellow Brass: Edged higher by CNY 50 per MT
