SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has restarted part of its Al Taweelah aluminium smelter in Abu Dhabi as the company continues repairs following damage from an Iranian attack in March.

EGA said 315 of the facility’s 1,262 reduction cells are now operating, bringing roughly one-quarter of the smelter’s production capacity back online. The site, which can produce about 1.5 million metric tons of aluminium annually, was forced into an emergency shutdown after the attack affected facilities in the Khalifa Economic Zone.

The company is carrying out repairs while gradually restoring production across all three lines. The production lines were re-energised between May and August as part of the recovery programme.

About 1,000 workers are currently involved in the restoration effort. EGA Chief Executive Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said the company remains confident of returning Al Taweelah to full production during the first quarter of 2027.

Meanwhile, EGA's alumina refinery continues to operate at around half of its normal capacity. The company also said production at its recently commissioned recycling facility is progressing according to plan, with the plant expected to reach full output in the fourth quarter of 2026.
