U.S. Weekly Steel Output Up 4.2% YoY:AISI

Year-to-date figures show continued growth momentum in steel output.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.S. domestic raw steel production totalled 1.774 million net tons for the week ending March 14, 2026, according to the latest industry data. The capability utilization rate stood at 76.7%, reflecting a slight dip compared to the previous week but marking a notable improvement over the same period last year.

Production increased by 4.2% from 1.703 million net tons recorded in the corresponding week of 2025, when the utilization rate was 76.5%. However, output declined marginally by 0.9% from the prior week ending March 7, 2026, when production reached 1.791 million net tons with a higher utilization rate of 77.4%.

Year-to-date figures show continued growth momentum in steel output. Adjusted production through March 14, 2026, reached 18.613 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 77.2%. This represents a 4.9% increase compared to 17.738 million net tons during the same period in 2025.

Regionally, the Southern district led output with 795,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes at 505,000 net tons. Other contributions (in net tons) included the Midwest (280,000), Northeast (133,000), and Western (61,000) regions, highlighting stable nationwide steel production activity.
