U.S. Weekly Steel Production Jumps Nearly 10%, AISI Data Shows

The Southern region produced the most, at 790,000 net tons.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The latest weekly data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) indicates a significant uptick in U.S. raw steel production. For the week ending October 18, 2025, domestic mills produced 1.744 million net tons (NT) of raw steel, marking a 9.8% increase compared to the same week last year. The domestic mill capacity utilization rate stood at 76.1%, up from 71.6% during the corresponding week in 2024.

Compared to the prior week ending October 11, 2025, production edged higher by 1.3%, up from 1.722 million NT, while capacity utilization slightly increased from 76.0% to 76.1%.

Regional Highlights: The Southern region led production with 790,000 NT, followed by the Great Lakes at 559,000 NT. Other regions contributed as follows: Midwest – 212, North East – 114, and Western – 69 thousand NT.

On a year-to-date (YTD) basis, U.S. steel production totaled 71.964 million NT at a capacity utilization rate of 77.0%, reflecting a 2.6% rise compared to 70.116 million NT and 75.8% capacity utilization during the same period in 2024.

This data underscores steady growth in the U.S. steel sector, driven by robust demand and improving mill efficiency across regions.
