U.S. Steel Mill Shipments Declined in August From Prior Month-AISI
In the first eight months of 2025, 60.700 million net tons were shipped by domestic stel mills in the United States.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): August of this year saw more U.S. steel shipments than the same month last year, according to monthly data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). As a matter of fact, shipments decreased over the prior month.
How much steel did U.S. Steel mills ship in August?
In August 2025, the steel mills shipped 7.763 million net tons, according to AISI data. Compared to shipments of 7.353 million net tons in the same month in 2024, this is a 5.6% increase. This year, the shipments showed a 0.5% decline from July. According to AISI figures, 7.798 million net tons of steel were delivered in July of this year.

Cumulative steel shipments in Jan-Aug '25
The United States' domestic steel mills shipped 60.700 million net tons in the first eight months of 2025. Compared to the same eight-month period last year, this is a little 3.7% gain. Between January and August of 2024, these mills shipped 58.541 million net tons of steel.
Product-wise shipment details and breakdown
Shipment volumes of various steel products for the current year are compared in the report. Shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip increased by 2% in the first eight months of this year over the same period last year. Hot rolled sheet and strip shipments decreased by 2%. Additionally, according to AISI, shipments of cold rolled sheets and strips decreased by 5% annually compared to 2024.
