In 2024, domestic steel mill shipments came to 87 million net tons (NT), a 3% decrease from the previous year, according to the ASR. In 2024, U.S. raw steel production fell 2% year over year to 88 million NT. While completed steel imports rose 4% in 2024, overall U.S. steel imports increased 3%. According to the research, finished steel accounted for 22% of apparent steel consumption in the preceding year.

The research also pointed out that the top end-use markets for U.S. steel product shipments remained the construction and automotive sectors.

The ASR will be an essential tool for keeping up with the constantly changing steel business and the go-to source for anything related to steel, according to Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO of AISI.

With dozens of charts and graphs, the AISI ASR study is regarded as the most thorough reference of its kind. On the Platts Steel Data and Analysis website, a copy of the same is available for purchase.
