BIR Session Urges Electronics Recyclers to Find Innovative Ways to Safeguard Economic Circularity
This will be followed by presentation by two speakers on various creative and innovative industrial applications of used batteries.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Electrics, Electronics & EV Batteries Committee, chaired by Committee Chairwoman Josephita Harry, will hold a plenary session on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the forthcoming BIR World Recycling Convention & Exhibition.
According to BIR, the electronic recycling sector must come up with creative strategies to protect economic circularity, particularly in light of the disruptions to global trade caused by growing trade restrictions on recycled materials and increased tariffs.

The session will focus on batteries, analysing latest market trends in reuse and refurbishment in addition to recycling and exploring ways to extend battery life before the materials enter the recycling stream. It will feature a presentation by Alvaro Rodriguez, Spanish Coordinator for The Climate Reality Project (ESP).
Following this, two presenters will discuss a range of inventive and creative industrial uses for spent batteries. First up, Balearia (ESP)'s Javier Cervera Alonso will present the company's two newly built ferries that meet Zero Emissions standards and are powered entirely by electricity. German Agullo Garcia, CEO of GVD Mobility (ESP), will then give a presentation about the company's distinctive 360-degree electric vehicle after-sales service.
A discussion on end-of-life electronics and the effects of the Basel Convention E-Waste amendments will round off the session.
