The current government has been keen on advancing projects promoting decarbonisation of the industrial sector, with hydrogen being the centre of that strategy.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  An update on Thyssenkrupp's green steel plan was released. According to the most recent information, the $3.1 billion green steel plan may still proceed even if the government's aim to develop a hydrogen sector is unsuccessful for several reasons. The strategy does not rely just on hydrogen, the business stated. The comment comes after the German opposition leader recently said that a quick transition to hydrogen doesn't appear feasible.

Thyssenkrupp pointed out that the hydrogen industry is not a prerequisite for its intended green steel facility in Duisburg. In comparison to traditional blast furnace operation, the plant might run on natural gas, which guarantees a 50% reduction in carbon emissions. However, it pointed out that if the plant ran just on green hydrogen, it would be climate neutral.

The present administration has been eager to move forward with initiatives that support the industrial sector's decarbonization, with hydrogen serving as the focal point of that approach. However, a number of these initiatives have had previously unheard-of delays in their implementation, primarily as a result of financial limitations and legal concerns. This has led to a great deal of pessimism among industry participants, particularly steelmakers, regarding the success of such ambitious targets.

Meanwhile, the government has reaffirmed its renewed commitment to making sure that the infrastructure for hydrogen is ramped up on time.
