Scrap gold values strengthened across all major purity grades over the week, mirroring the upward momentum in the global bullion market.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): North American precious metals scrap prices—covering gold and silver, in both hallmarked and non-hallmarked categories—registered a modest uptrend on the ScrapMonster Price Index during the week of July 17-23, 2026. In contrast, platinum scrap prices inched lower during the week.
Hallmarked Precious Metals Market
Hallmarked scrap gold prices recorded a slight week-on-week jump.
Hallmarked scrap gold prices edged slightly higher over the past week, tracking the broader recovery in international gold prices early in the week.
The uptick was primarily supported by safe-haven demand amid escalating Middle East tensions, a weaker U.S. dollar, and also due to positioning ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting.
However, gold shed part of its gain towards the end of the week as surging oil prices fueled inflation concerns, expectations for higher U.S. interest rates strengthened, and higher Treasury yields reduced the appeal of non-yielding assets like gold.
These market trends were clearly mirrored in the ScrapMonster Price Index, which recorded widespread gains across multiple purity grades during the previous week.
Fourteen-carat scrap gold values edged higher by $91.20 per ounce, tracking the broader upward momentum in global bullion markets. Similarly, eighteen-carat scrap gold prices increased by $116.92 per ounce over the same period.
On a week-over-week basis, 22-carat scrap gold prices jumped by $142.80 per pound, driven by a mix of global and domestic factors.
The chart below highlights the weekly price movement of 22-carat hallmarked scrap gold.
Lower-purity segments also mirrored the overall upward trend, with 9-carat scrap gold increasing by approximately 4.05% compared to the previous week.
In the broader precious metals scrap market, silver scrap recorded a notable 5.03% gain from the previous week’s level of $42.56 per ounce.
In contrast, hallmarked platinum scrap prices were down by 0.10% week-on-week. Platinum scrap prices declined last week primarily because higher U.S. interest-rate expectations strengthened the dollar and Treasury yields, while weaker automotive demand and profit-taking weighed on global platinum prices, causing scrap values to soften as well.

Non-Hallmarked Precious Metals Market
Non-hallmarked scrap gold values strengthened across all major purity grades over the week, mirroring the upward momentum in the global bullion market. Fourteen-carat scrap prices increased by $86.24 per ounce, while eighteen-carat and twenty-two-carat grades recorded gains of $110.56 and $135.04 per ounce, respectively. Meanwhile, 9-carat scrap also posted a modest week-on-week rise of 4.05%, underscoring a generally firm trend across segments.
Platinum scrap prices recorded a moderate weekly decline, falling 0.10% to settle lower from the previous week’s level of at $1,201. 41 per ounce, according to the chart below.
Silver scrap prices posted a substantial week-on-week rise of 5.04%. The sharp rise in silver scrap prices was driven primarily by a surge in global silver prices, supported by strong safe-haven and investment demand, expectations of lower interest rates, and robust industrial consumption, particularly from the solar sector.
